Lamwaka Harriet

Before joining the program Harriet had a small business knitting sweaters on a contract basis for the local schools. She liked the work but struggled to make ends meet when contracts were scarce. Now at KK Uganda, Harriet is using her job, education and mentorship to take her previous livelihood to the next level. After saving enough money she plans on buying a knitting machine and opening up a store to sell her products in.

My daughter gave me a hat for Christmas, made by you. It is lovely. I have had fun wearing it in the snow. We have cold, snowy winters. I hope you are continuing to make your lovely products. I also hope you are happy and healthy. Thank you for my winter hat; I will think of you when I wear it. Blessings, Tresa

Thank you, Harriet, for this beautiful hat that you knit. It was a Christmas present from my daughter, and it’s perfect for me to wear in the winters in Chicago where I live. It is beautiful to me that my daughter found this hat from you, because I love knowing who made it. I will love telling about your definition of love, because I also pray for people to share the best of what they have. You have done so for me, and I’m glad to let your light shine for all my friends around Chicago too. Thank you! Shirley Paulson

I love the Pom Pom and strings. Keep up the amazing work, and I hope you can open up a store one day. You’re so talented!

    Hello Lamwaka!

Thank you so much for taking the time to craft such a beautiful hat for me 🙂

For the first time ever I’m actually looking forward to the temperatures dropping here in NYC. I cannot wait to wear my hat and think of you every day. I hope that others will notice and appreciate the beauty of this hat, and I hope to share your story and the story of KKI with as many people as possible.

Perhaps one day our paths can cross in real life! Until then, I will treasure this thread of our connection and wish you the best on all things in life!

You just made another friend a world away in Los Angeles. I draw cartoons for a living, and I wish there was a way I could share my talent with you as you have done for me. I will think of you every time I wear the hat that was made with your hands. Thank you so much Lamwaka, I am so grateful.

    Sincerely,

    Steven
