Janet and her siblings were raised by her grandmother where they were forced to fend for themselves. Because Janet was the first-born, most of the family’s responsibilities landed onto her lap. In desperation to finish school, Janet attempted to raise money to pay for her own school fees by doing various casual jobs around town but was unsuccessful and had to drop out. Eventually, she was recruited to the KKU program where she says, “I have found love in KKU. My heart used to ache because I missed out on parental love, but now I am in a family. Even with my first two-months of earnings, I could fend for myself and my three children. I have hope of improving my life and that of my children.”
