During the war, Akello Vicky was abducted and held captive, during which time she saw many close companions die and was forced into marriage with one of the rebel commanders. After having his child, Vicky escaped and was reunited with her family. Although she was free, life was still difficult. Even after remarrying, Vicky rarely had enough money to meet her basic needs and to provide for her child. Vicky sees her work at KKU as the door to a new life. She can now provide for herself and her family and no longer has to worry about going hungry or becoming homeless.
DREAM FOR THE FUTURE
“My dream is to save enough money to be able to support my family without concern; to provide my child with food, medical care and clothing and also to save for the future.”
“Loving someone means caring for them wholeheartedly.”
